You know that crisis the media keep telling us about? The crisis that has been caused by years of deliberate Government DE-FUNDING? Well, guess what? The plan is about to het worse. NHS Boss Simon Stevens is going to close MORE A&E Depts, reduce more services because (as he keeps telling us) in a modern world with an ageing population and complex needs - we don't need as many hospitals!
Now called Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships, the NHS and the country is now split into 44 regional areas - known as “footprints”.
Each footprint has been ordered to produce a plan to completely change the way the NHS works. STP Boards are forcing Clinical Commissioning Groups, hospital boards and services to clear their deficits within a year.
In 2013 we had 140 full A&E hospitals in England. When the STPs are complete there will only be between 40 and 70 left.
According to Simon Stevens the public must get used to longer ambulance journeys for emergency care, longer waiting times for treatment and the possibility of paying extra to be seen by a doctor. This was planned in 2013, but shelved until after the 2015 election as being 'politically sensitive'.
While everyone is shouting for Jeremy Hunt to fund the NHS, the boss of NHS England, Simon Stevens is imposing an even more dangerous situation on NHS Trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups, local councils and the voluntary sector.
After leaving Tony Blair's government Simon Stevens took a job as President of Global Strategy for United Health of America - one of the largest health insurance companise in the world!
As CEO of NHS England he is driving through a change that will eradicate our NHS and replace it with a US style health service in its place. Introducing new models called Accountable Care Organisations these will be run by large USA corporations, managing and holding our public money budgets and deciding what care will be provided and who can get it.
This is the reality of Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships.
It's vital you find a local campaign group, talk to them and ask how you can support them. Many of them have been in existence for many years and there are people who have huge experience and knowledge to help you understand what is going on. But they all need help from new people.
Click on the Network Map logo to find a group near you.
If you can't find a group contact us and think about setting one up yourself with friends and colleagues. That's how we started!
Write to your MP asking if they are aware of the STP and what they think about it. You'll discover that many have not heard of this huge restructuring that has no public or parliamentary approval.
The same for your local district, town or parish councils. Ask them. We will be issuing a "Useful Questions" document very shortly compiled with the help of campaign groups in Yorkshire, Brighton, Bristol, Oxford, Manchester and more.
We've collected and created some videos to help spread the word about the biggest top-down reorganisation of the NHS most of the country has never heard of.
We don't promote huge amounts of petitions but this one is VITAL!
It can be a fantastic weapon to raise public and press awareness and make the MPs and policy makers listen to the people. We have drafted this petition working with our friends around the country Sussex Defend the NHS, Calderdale & Kirklees 999, Open Democracy & Politics of Health Group. We know this is the last big battle we must fight to save our NHS. If you want it to be there for your children and grandchildren in their time of need then fight now. We must stop the STP from becoming a reality. Don’t let Simon Stevens get his wish
