999 Call for the NHS were shocked and dismayed to learn from fellow members of the NHS Reinstatement Bill Group that the Private Members 10mins Rule Bill, presented by Eleanor Smith MP, has been vetoed by the Labour Party.
We are extremely anxious about this decision, apparently dropping a proactive and thoughtful Bill aiming to restore a fully funded, comprehensive and universal public service in favour of a ‘full consultation’ process on the NHS.
999 Call for the NHS has supported and campaigned for the NHS Reinstatement Bill since 2014 as it is central to our core aims of stopping and reversing NHS privatisation. We are still clear that the only solution to save the NHS from being usurped by private company control is to reject the commercial market model and renationalise the NHS – bring it back into public hands.
The NHS Reinstatement Bill lays the groundwork for this and we are deeply concerned as to the Labour Party's reasoning for vetoing it.
