Fighting to Save our NHS from profiteers
The safest and one of the cheapest among western economies and delivers the most effective care. It cares for all UK citizens, treating over 1 million people every 36 hours, for only 9.4 % GDP.
That’s less than Germany 11.3%, Switzerland 11.0%, USA 17.7% the insurance-based USA system doesn’t cover all its citizens and yet still spends that much!
“The United Kingdom ranks first overall, scoring highest on quality, access and efficiency.”

NHS In Stitches was brought to you by an army of volunteers including some of Britain's best comedic talents: Lucy Porter, Slim, Kerry Godliman, Stewart Lee, Junior Simpson, Mark Steel, Wendy Wason, Nish Kumar, Francesca Martinez, Pappy's, Rufus Hound, and Ed Bennett. On the 28th March 2015 the all-star line up lent their (often quite loud, always hilarious) voices to our call to stand up for the nation’s proudest achievement and most treasured institution: Our NHS.
The one night only show, live at the Hackney Empire was an exhilarating and exciting evening, packed full of the very best stand up and sketch comedy in Britain today. It featured brand new material and films from a host of special guests and an exclusive appearance from the comedy legend that is Spitting Image.
But that was all before the government’s Health and Social Care Act (2012) unleashed the most extensive ever re-organisation of the NHS.
The NHS was founded on 3 core principles: that it meet the needs of everyone, that it be free at the point of delivery and that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay. The marketisation of the NHS is not driven by a desire to improve the service for the people who have built it, invested in it and rely on it. This financial reform is driven by profit, pure and simple.
Not one but TWO world-renowned British institutions: Our NHS and our comedy. This is a not-for-profit event run by volunteers. Be part of NHS in Stitches: What better way to celebrate and stand up for our NHS.
